Biography

Daniel Robert Boone, Jr. was born July 6, 1914 at Placid, near Brady in McCulloch County. D. R. is the son of Daniel Robert Boone, Sr. and Martha Amanda Smith and is the sixth child in a family of 13. He has the same birthday as both his oldest and youngest sisters; Martice Gilbreath, 1902 and Katie Bates, 1916, both residing in Gatesville.

D. R. moved with his family to Coryell County in 1926. He grew up on a farm near Gatesville and in 1933 was baptized by the Methodist minister, Rev. George Siler, in the Leon River. In 1954, he was baptized into Ralls Baptist Church.

Daniel R. Boone married Essie Juanita West at Leon Junction August 14, 1936. She was the first child in a family of five children of Demps Franklyn West and Toy Lee Hamilton West. Juanita attended school at Pecan Grove School and Waco Public School. In 1930 she was baptized at Turner Street Baptist Church, Waco.

On May 6, 1944, R. R., Juanita and their four children, Helen Janet, Mildred Geneva, Gene Robert, and Dale Wayne moved to Ralls. D. R. and Juanita continue to reside in Ralls at 1118 Avenue G.

Helen Janet Boone married Melvin Dewbre in 1954. They reside at White River Lake and have three children. David Franklyn Dewbre married Kathy Hutchins and they have two children, Ursilla Dawn and Joe David. Cynthia Leigh Dewbre married Van Allen May. Judith Lynn Dewbre married Larry Reeves and they have two children, Timathia Lynn and Joshua Dan.

Mildred Geneva Boone married Arnold Woods in 1961. They reside in Ralls and have three children, Steven Joseph, Teresa Dawn, and Kelly Dewayne.

Gene Robert Boone married Darlene Hamilton in 1965. They reside in St. David, Arizona. He has five children, Daniel Wayne, Kenneth William, Angela Kay, Gene Robert, J. R., and Brandi Dawn.

Dale Wayne Boone resides in Canyon.

In Waco D. R. worked on the Cotton Belt Railroad and at Clements Grain Company. After moving to Ralls he has worked at Fred Shell Grain Company, Spacek Elevator, Mayes Brothers Gas, and is employed by the City of Ralls.

RALLS (Special) — Services for D.R. Boone, 78, of Ralls will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Morrow, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in Ralls Cemetery under direction of Carter-Adams Funeral Home.

Boone died at 2:45 a.m. Tuesday in Lubbock´s St. Mary of the Plains Hospital after a lengthy illness.

He was born in Palo Pinto and moved to Ralls from Leon Junction in 1944. He married Juanita West on Feb. 25, 1920. She died on April 28, 1981. He married Lillie M. Harrell on Oct. 10, 1982, in Ralls. He was a maintainer operator for the City of Ralls until retiring in 1984. He was a member of First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Gene R. of Massachusetts and Dale of Dallas; a stepson, Billy Harrell of Ardmore, Okla.; two daughters, Mildred Woods of Paris and Helen Dewbre of White River Lake; three stepdaughters, Betty Harrell of Ralls, Lola Simpson of Kilgore and Donna Seigler of Mineral Wells; four sisters, Margie Stevens of Artesia, NM, and Martice Gilbreathe, Ona Ballard and Katie Capps, all of Gatesville; 11 grandchildren; 11 stepgrandchildren; 12 great stepgrandchildren.

RALLS (Special) — Services for Essie Juanita Boone, 61, of Ralls will be at 2 p.m. Friday in First Baptist Church here with the Rev. Larry Stalling, pastor of the Elgin Avenue Baptist Church in Lubbock, officiating.

Burial will be in Ralls Cemetery under direction of Carter-Adams. Funeral Home of Ralls.

She died at 3 p.m. Tuesday at her home following a lengthy illness. Ralls Justice of the Peace Jim S. Travis ruled natural causes in the death.

The Coryell County native married D.R. Boone Aug. 14, 1936, at Leon Junction. She came to Crosby County from Coryell County in 1944 and moved to Ralls in 1945. She was a member of the Jolly Workers Club.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Gene R. of San Diego, Calif., and Dale of Amarillo; two daughters, Mildred Woods of Ralls and Helen Dewbre of White River Lake; a brother, Ervin E. West of Wanamingo, Minn.; a sister Maude Wood of Wanamingo; 11 grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
