Tom Ed Benton was born Apr. 23, 1910 in Floydada. He is the son of Dave L. and Lenna Oldham Benton. They were residents of Crosby County, but since Ralls did not have a doctor, Lenna went to Floydada to stay with her sister Leona Garrison until Tom Ed was born. Tom Ed attended Ralls Public Schools. He was attending TCU in Fort Worth when he married.

Tom Ed married Jimmie Botkins Sept.18, 1929 in Clovis, NM. Jimmie moved to Ralls in 1927 and graduated from Ralls High School. She was the daughter of Dr. W.L. and Katie Botkins. Her family moved from Hill Co. Jimmie was employed by Dr. Haney after her graduation. At the time of their marriage Jimmie worked in Susie Flannery´s dress shop and Tom Ed worked at Bryant Link´s grocery.

Tom Ed and Jimmie have one daughter, Billie Gwendolyn. As Tom Ed recalls, it was paint-up, clean-up day in Ralls. He kept busy working as Dr. Haney delivered Billie at their home on West Watts Street.

Billie started first grade in Ralls and graduated from Ralls High in 1947, but she went to at least a dozen schools in between. She attended Texas Tech.

Billie married B.L. Anderson, Jr. They have two sons.

Tom Ed was involved in the grocery business, drug store business and farming. Tom Ed was tax assessor for White River Municipal Water Agency when it was formed.

Tom Ed and Jimmie moved from Ralls several times but moved back each time to Ralls to make it their home until March, 1964. At that time they moved to Hart where they still live. Tom Ed is business manager and tax assessor Hart School District. They are members of the Church of Christ.
