John A. Bain was a native of Magdelena, NM, but was reared in Silverton.It was in Silverton he met Ethel Crawford, daughter of Dr.and Mrs. James Ed Crawford. Dr. Crawford was a well known physician who practiced medicine in Tulsa and Silverton many years.
John and Ethel were married in 1915, and made their home in Silverton. Their first child, Ruth Louise, was born in 1917, and a son, John Ed, was born in 1923. Ruth Louise suffered a fatal attack of appendicitis in 1928.
In 1945 the Bain family moved to Lubbock to enable John Ed to attend Texas Tech. John Ed married Lola Bellah of Breckenridge.
John and Ethel Bain came to Ralls in 1954. They purchased Benton Drug Store from Tom Ed Benton and acquired many friends during their years in business. Their store was a pleasant and restful place to get refreshment and encouraging words for many people, as well as a good place to shop. They joined Ralls Methodist Church.
John, Ed and Lola moved to a farm near Lorenzo. He farms and both he and Lola hold full time jobs in Lubbock. They are members of Methodist Church in Lorenzo.
John passed away in 1972. After breaking her hip, Ethel became a resident of Ralls Nursing Home, where she enjoyed doing needlepoint, watching Dallas Cowboy football games and visiting and helping the other residents in every way she could.

John A. Bain, 80, of Ralls, died about 8 a.m. Monday in Crosbyton Hospital.
Services were held at 4 p.m. Tuesday in Ralls First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Vernon O´Kelly, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. James Holman, pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Lorenzo.
Burial was in Ralls Cemetery under the direction of Carter Funeral Home.
A native of Magdalena, NM, Bain was reared in Silverton and moved to Lubbock in 1946. He moved to Ralls in 1954 where he was in the drug business until his retirement several years ago.
Survivors include his wife; a son, John E. Bain of Lorenzo; and a brother, Frank Bain of Plainview.

RALLS (Special) Services for Mrs. Ethel Bain, 83, of Ralls will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Ralls United Methodist Church with the Rev. H.B. Coggin and the Rev. E.R. MacGregor officiating.
Burial will be in the Ralls Cemetery under direction of Carter-Adams Funeral Home.
Mrs. Bain died at approximately 2:15 p.m. Tuesday in St. Mary´s Hospital at Lubbock after a short illness.
Born in Canyon, she married John Alexander Bain in Silverton in 1915. Bain died in 1972.
She moved to Lubbock from Silverton in 1946 and later to Ralls in 1954.
She was a member of the Ralls United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a sons, John Ed of Lorenzo, and a brother, Edwin Crawford of Amarillo.
