Graveside services for Joe Earl Autry, E-7 USN (Retired), 78, of Slaton were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Apr. 30, 2002, at Ralls Cemetery with the Rev. Larry Reed-Farris officiating.
Burial was in Ralls Cemetery under the direction of Adams Funeral Home of Ralls.
He died Sunday, April 28, 2002, at Slaton Care Center in Slaton.
He was born October. 29, 1923, in Marquez, TX.
He served in the U.S. Navy as a chief petty officer with E7. He went into the service Nov. 20, 1942, and was honorably discharged on May 5, 1970. He served during World War II, Korea and also in the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a long time resident of Brownsville before moving to Slaton.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Eva Autry.
Survivors include a longtime friend, Fredaleen Madden of Marquez, TX; three sisters, Maggie Smith of Fort Stockton, Jessie Long of San Antonio and Kathryn Gallagher of Pagosa Springs, CO., and husband John; one brother, Bill Autry of Ralls and wife Billie; Niece and care giver, Barbara Buxkemper and husband Gaylon of Slaton; several other nieces, nephews and friends.
