Henry S. Smyer, son of Robert Albert "Bob" Smyer and Elizabeth Setzer, was born June 12, 1860 in Newton, Catawba County, North Carolina, and died November 08, 1939 in Lorenzo, Crosby County, Texas, buried November 10, 1939 in Lorenzo Cemetery. He married Idella "Della" Stephens November 19, 1885 in Decatur, Wise County, TX, daughter of Enoch Stephens and Mary Quinn. She was born July 23, 1871 in Boyd, Wise County, TX, and died October 27, 1953 in Levelland, Hockley County, TX, buried October 29, 1953 in Lorenzo Cemetery.
Henry belonged to the Masons and Della to the Eastern Star.
As a small boy he arrived in Whitener, Arkansas on February the 4th 1871. The men came through in the wagons. The women came by train. Henry had white swelling. It left his right knee crippled, but it did not stop him from working. He grew up helping in the mills with James Sidney. He was known as Uncle Henry by everyone. He came to Texas and married Idella Stephens in Decatur, Wise County, TX. They moved with their first three girls to Lorenzo in the latter part of 1892. They farmed and ranched and most of their children were born in Lorenzo. They had fourteen children. There were twin boys born in Lubbock at the hospital. George lived eight months and the other unnamed twin lived only a few minutes. They raised their twelve children to attend school in Lorenzo and they had families of their own.
