Betty Smith photoBetty Smith 84 of Lubbock went to be with her Lord on Thursday April 17, 2014 in Lubbock. Betty was born September 26, 1929 in Pep Texas to W.O. and Bonnie Hutchins Fortenberry. She married Edward S. Smith December 20, 1949 in Lubbock Texas. She taught in the Lorenzo School District for 18 years, past president of the Jr. and Sr. Study Club of Lorenzo, served as president of the parent teacher association and Crosby County library board. Betty was a member of the First Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher and played the piano for many years, and was a charter member of the Lorenzo Country Club.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents and a son-in-law Bonner Smith.

Survivors include her husband Edward S. Smith, a daughter Shelly Smith of Lubbock, a son Eddie Smith and his wife Jennie Sue of Floydada, two brothers Billy and Joe Fortenberry of Lubbock and a sister Imogene Bowman of Lubbock. Betty also leaves behind four grandchildren; Bonny Smith of Chicago, Robyn Everson and husband Eric of Little Rock Arkansas, Brooke Smith of Lubbock, Eric and wife Leigh Smith of Floydada and two great- grandchildren; Ethan and Logan Smith of Floydada.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday April 19, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church in Lorenzo. Burial will follow in the Lorenzo Cemetery under the care of Adams Funeral Home of Lorenzo. A memorial service will be held 3:00 p.m. Friday April 18, 2014 at Carillon Retirement Center in Lubbock. A visitation will be held Friday from 6:00 p.m. till 7 p.m. at Adams Funeral Home in Lorenzo. Family request memorial be sent to the Alzheimers Association or the Carillon Foundation.
