Obituary

Services for Walter Zukoski, 69, of Lorenzo, were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, October 30, 1986, in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Fred Meeks, a professor at Wayland Baptist College, the Rev. John Jenkins, a retired Baptist minister form Lubbock and the Rev. Jerry Golden, pastor, officiating.

Burial was in Lorenzo Cemetery under the direction of Carter-Adams Funeral Home of Ralls.

He died at 7 a.m. Tuesday, October 28, 1986 at his residence. Justice of the Peace Melvin Powers ruled natural causes in the death.

He was born in Athens, Ohio, and moved to Lorenzo area in 1947. He married Velma Castleberry on February 18, 1945, in Idalou. He was a farmer. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and received the Purple-Heart.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Lana McElroy of Midland and Brenda Scheef of Houston; a brother, Henry of Cleveland, Ohio; two sisters, Jean Majeski of Wallingford, Conn., and Adella Emrich of Casey, Ill.; and five grandchildren.

Velma ZukoskiServices for Velma Zukoski, 87, of Ft. Worth and formerly Lorenzo will be at 2 p.m., Monday, July 9, 2007 at the Lorenzo First Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Lorenzo Cemetery under direction of Adams Funeral Home of Lorenzo.

Velma passed away Thursday, July 5, 2007 in Ft. Worth. She was born on Jan. 24, 1920 to the late Wesley and Alta Lou (Hill) Castleberry. On Feb. 18, 1945 she married Walter B. Zukoski in Idalou. He preceded her in death on Oct. 28, 1986. A graduate of Stanton High School and a homemaker, she was a member of the Lorenzo First Baptist Church and was active in the Lorenzo Senior Citizens. She moved to Lorenzo in 1947 and then to Ft. Worth in November of 2003.

She is preceded in death by seven brothers and a sister.

Survivors include two daughters, Lana Zukoski of Georgetown, Texas, Brenda Zukoski Scheef of Ft. Worth; a sister, Ila Pollock of Lubbock; three grandchildren, Keva Weir and husband Lance, Katie Harmonson, Brian Scheef and wife Holly; nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Serving as pallbearers were: Blake Reynolds, George Pollock, Duron Castleberry, Lance Weir, Brian Scheef, Jack Dowell, Donnie Powell and Travis Castleberry.
