Graveside services for Mary Frances Wiese Young, 71 of Lubbock were at 2:00 PM Tuesday, October 24, 2006 in the Lorenzo Cemetery with the Rev. Randy Hamilton, Chaplain of VistaCare Hospice officiating. Arrangements were under direction of Adams Funeral Home of Lorenzo.
The family will received friends from 7:00 to 8:30 PM Monday at 7908 Albany Ave. in Lubbock.
Mrs. Young passed away Saturday, October 21, 2006 in Lubbock's VistaCare Center.
She was born December 9, 1934 in Becton, Texas to Ralph Herman and Mary Edna (Kelley) Wiese. Her father preceded her in death on September 20, 1978.
She married Dale Young August 11, 2000 in Reno, Nevada.
She was a 1953 graduate of Lorenzo High School and a 1957 graduate of Texas Tech University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics. She was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority.
She taught Home Economics in Kermit, then worked at the Gas Company in Abilene, then taught Home Economics in Midland and also taught Special Education in Lorenzo. She cherished her time with her special needs students outside of the classroom. She volunteered for over 20 years at Contact of Lubbock where she did counseling.
She will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all who knew her and who recognized her numerous artistic and educational talents. She was well known for her sincere caring, generous attention and loyalty to those in need and less fortunate.
Throughout her life, Mary traveled extensively and enjoyed all things beautiful and special. She is survived by her mother, Edna Wiese of Lubbock, her husband, Dale and daughter Elizabeth Turner both of Lubbock, 3 granddaughters, Deborah Rojas of Abilene, Jennifer Rojas and Amanda Haden, both of Lubbock, and special friends, Bettye Miers, Mary Jo Smith, Betty and Milton Rudder and Argie and Kenneth Reynolds.
The family suggests memorials to VistaCare 1010 Slide Road, Lubbock, Texas 79416.
Serving as pallbearers were Joey Nichols, James Norris, Van Cypert, Tommy Fondren, John D. Sales, Jerrel Greer and honorary pallbearers were: Hop Boyd, Bobby Marlar, Milton Rudder and Kenneth Reynolds.
