Biography

In 1919 Harry Swetnam purchased eighty-four acres of land. Apparently he thought it to be a good idea as he purchased eighty acres in 1926, one hundred sixty acres in 1936, eighty acres in 1939 and two hundred ten acres in 1943.

Harry Swetnam was born in Vineyard, Texas January 3, 1889 and passed away on May 26, 1971. His father was George Swetnam who was born in Missouri and his mother was Jennie Reed born in Dayton, Ohio. Harry had three sisters, one brother and three half brothers, one half sister and two step brothers.

Jessie Hash Swetnam was born March 3, 1901 in Bell County, Texas. Her father was Joe B. Hash. Her mother was Louisa Crawford McKee. She had three sisters and one brother.

Harry and Jessie Swetnam had one son, Robert H. Swetnam, born March 9, 1921 in Strawn, Texas. The family moved to Lorenzo when Robert was six months old.

Obituary

LORENZO (Special) — Services for Jessie L. Swetnam, 81, of Lorenzo will be at 2:30 p.m. today in Lorenzo Church of Christ with Joe Johnston officiating.

Burial will be in Lorenzo Cemetery under direction of Carter-Adams Funeral Home of Ralls.

She died at 6:45 p.m. Sunday in Lubbock Methodist Hospital after a lengthy illness.

The Bell County native married Harry Swetnam on Jan. 3, 1920, in Palo Pinto. He died May 26, 1971. She was a housewife and a member of the Church of Christ, moving to the Lorenzo area on Sept. 17, 1921, from Palo Pinto.

Survivors include a son, Robert H. of Lorenzo; a sister, Mamie Ellett of Fort Worth; three grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
