Services for Ethel Mae Pyles, 77, of Lorenzo were held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 20, 1987 in the Lorenzo First Baptist Church with Dr. Jerry Golden, pastor, officiating.

Burial was in the Lorenzo Cemetery under the direction of Carter-Adams Funeral Home of Ralls.

Mrs. Pyles died at 4 a.m. Saturday, April 18, 1987 in Lubbock's Methodist Hospital following a lengthy illness.

She was born September 1, 1909 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and married Andrew Jackson Pyles November 17, 1929 in Tulsa, OK. He preceded her in death June 15, 1973. She was a member of the Lorenzo First Baptist Church where she taught the Samaritan Sunday School Class. She started her school teaching career at age 18 in Oklahoma. She taught school in Lorenzo for several years, retiring in 1975 after a total of 34 years teaching. She was a member of the Texas State Teachers Association. She was active in organizing the Lorenzo Senior Citizens serving as Center Director, Board President and on the AARP Programs Committee. She received an award last week for 3 years service on the AARP Program Committee. She was a member of the Lorenzo Garden Club and was a Crosby County Librarian in Lorenzo. She moved to Lorenzo in August of 1952 from Morris, OK.
