Services for Carlene Barr Petersen, of Lorenzo were held at 3 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2, 1992, in Lorenzo First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Golden, pastor, and Travis Boyd, a retired Church of Christ minister, officiating.

Burial was in Lorenzo Cemetery under direction of Carter-Adams Funeral Home of Ralls.

Mrs. Petersen died at 11:10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 30, 1992, at her residence after a lengthy illness. James Isbell, Justice of the Peace, ruled the death natural causes. She had been under a doctor's care.

She was born in Altus, Oklahoma, and moved to Lorenzo from Albuquerque, NM, in 1951. She graduated from Robertson High School and attended Texas Tech University. She married Lt. Mart Ferrell Ford on July 4, 1942, in Ralls. He died in 1944. She married J.R. Petersen on Jan. 19, 1947, in Amarillo. She worked at Lorenzo State Bank and Don's Pharmacy.

Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Ferrelene King of Huntington Beach, Calif.; her mother and stepfather, Rubie B. and V.H. Melton of Lubbock; a brother, Lewis C. Barr of Harlingen; a sister, LaHonda Sanders of Lubbock; three grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

J.R. Petersen PhotoServices for J. R. Petersen, 88, of Lorenzo, will be at 11 a.m., Monday, March 8, 2010 at the Lorenzo First Baptist Church, with Rev. Dennis Williams officiating. Burial will be in the Lorenzo Cemetery under the direction of Adams Funeral Home of Lorenzo.

J. R. passed away on Thursday, March 4, 2010 at the Ralls Nursing Home.

He was born on Oct. 13, 1921, in Panhandle, Texas, to the late Jack and Esther (Robb) Petersen. J. R. was a graduate of Albuquerque High School. He joined and served in the Army during WWII. After his discharge, J. R. made his home in Lorenzo, where he met and later married Carlene Barr on Jan. 19, 1947. She preceded him in death on Oct. 30, 1992.

J. R. was engaged in real estate and owned Lor-Tex Realty. He served the City of Lorenzo as judge for 20 years and had also served on the city council and as mayor. J. R. was a 32nd degree Mason and member of the Lorenzo Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include a daughter and husband, Ferrelene and Don King of Eagle, Colo.; three grandchildren, Angie Wolfe of Eagle, Colo., Cappie Green of Gypsum, Colo. and Brent Petersen of Eagle, Colo.;12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Lois Miller of Albuquerque, N.M.; and special friend, Susan Leonard of Lorenzo.

The family will receive friends today from 4 to 5 p.m. at Adams Funeral Home in Lorenzo.

The family suggests memorials to Lorenzo EMS at P.O. Box 430, Lorenzo, TX 79343; or the Shriner's Hospital at P.O. Box 1510, Ranson, WV 25438.
