James O'Rear PhotoMemorial services for James O´Rear, 82, of Lorenzo were at 2 p.m. Monday, Mar. 2, 2002 at Lorenzo First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dennis Williams officiating and the Rev. Jerry Golden assisting.

Burial was at Lorenzo Cemetery under the direction of Adams Funeral Home of Lorenzo.

He died Saturday, March 2, 2002 at Autumn House in Idalou.

He was born Oct. 4, 1919, in Lorenzo.

He married Nell Midkiff on Nov. 5, 1939, in Abernathy.

He was a member of the Lorenzo First Baptist Church and taught the Maverick Sunday School Class. He was a director of Wayland Baptist University and served on the board of Lorenzo State Bank at Lorenzo for 31 years. He also served on the board of Lorenzo Textile Mills and the Lorenzo school board. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a 50 year member of the Blue Lodge #1144 in Lorenzo. He served as mayor of Lorenzo from 1952 to 1956 and served 10 years on the Lorenzo City Council. He and his family operated O´Rear Grocery Store in Lorenzo for 63 years. He served in the army during WWII. He lived in Lorenzo all his life.

He is preceded in death by two brothers; Jack O´Rear of Washington, DC, and Dr. J.M. O´Rear of Lubbock.

Survivors include his wife. Nell O´Rear of Lorenzo; one daughter, Patti Work and her husband Larry Work of Idalou; two granddaughters, Wendi Work Pene of Shallowater and Leslie Work Davis of Lubbock; and seven great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Lorenzo First Baptist Church.

Nell O'Rear Celebration of Life memorial services for Nell O'Rear, 87, of Lorenzo will be held at 3:00 PM Tuesday, August 7, 2007 at the Lorenzo First Baptist Church with Dr. Jerry Golden, Rev. Dennis Williams and Rev. Wes Collins officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 7 PM Monday at Adams Funeral Home in Lorenzo.

Nell passed from this life Sunday, August 5, 2007 at Carillon House in Lubbock with her family by her side.

She was born August 10, 1919 in Grayson County, Texas to the late Charlie and Zora (Reed) Midkiff. Nell grew up in Ralls where she graduated in 1936.

She married James O'Rear November 5, 1939 in Abernathy. She and James were married 62 years prior to his death on March 2, 2002.

Nell is also preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Lowe of Plains and a brother, Jack Midkiff of Oklahoma.

Nell was a beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother and known for her generosity, loving spirit and great sense of humor.

She was a member of the Lorenzo First Baptist Church and served as Sunday School Clerk for many years and various other committees. Nell was always active in the community of Lorenzo.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter and son-in-law; Patti and Larry Work of Idalou, two granddaughters and their husbands; Wendi and Walt Pene of Shallowater and Lesli and David Davis of Lubbock. Nell had nine great grandchildren, whom she referred to as the apples of her eye. She also had several nieces and nephews. Serving as casket bearers will be David Davis, Samuel Davis, Walt Pene, Taylor Pierce, Truitt Pierce, Leon Marsh and Jerome O'Rear.

The family suggests memorials to Lorenzo First Baptist Church, Box 310, Lorenzo, Texas 79343 or VistaCare, 1717 Norfolk, Suite A, Lubbock, Texas 79416.
