Services for Clarice McCandless, 79, of Lubbock were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11,, 1991, in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Cleve Haley, pastor of Oakwood Baptist Church in Lubbock, officiating.

The Rev. Ross Spencer, pastor of Bethany Baptist Church in Lubbock, assisted, and burial was in Lorenzo Cemetery under direction of Carter-Adams Funeral Home of Ralls.

Mrs. McCandless died at 1:16 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, 1991 in Methodist Hospital in Lubbock after a brief illness.

She was born in Vernon and moved from Lorenzo to Lubbock 1in 1976. She was a former resident of Ralls. She married Jack McCandless May 24, 1940, in Amarillo. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, University Chapter No. 1982, and Theta Chapter of Phi Sigma Alpha.

Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Sherry Springer of Lubbock; a sister, Tribble Alexander of Columbus, Ohio; a brother, De Roy Conger of Boise City, Okla; and two grandchildren.

LORENZO (Special) — Services for S.J. "Jack" McCandless, 82, of Lubbock and formerly of Lorenzo, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 30, in Lorenzo First Baptist Church with the Rev. Richard Cravens, pastor of New Testament Baptist Church in Lubbock officiating.

Burial will follow in Lorenzo Cemetery under direction of Adams Funeral Home of Ralls.

He died Sunday, July 27, in Lubbock's St. Mary Plaza.

He was born Aug. 17, 1914, in Davidson, Okla. and married Clarice Conger on May 24, 19940, in Amarillo. She died Jan. 8, 1991.

He was a farmer and a member of New Testament Baptist Church in Lubbock. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Masonic Lodge. He also was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. He was a member of the Ralls Senior Citizens and a former member of the Lorenzo Lions Club, where he has served as president. He was a former member of the Lorenzo school board. He was a former resident of Ralls and Lorenzo before moving to Lubbock.

Survivors include a daughter, Sherry Plummer of Lubbock; a brother, John McCandless of Hockley; three sisters, Ann Stephens of Buckeye, Ariz., Gertrude Wright of Amarillo and Katie Brown of Bogata; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
