Robert Howard Mahan (August 29, 1826-March 30, 1915) married Rebecca Caroline Martin (May 1, 1826-December 18, 1882) of Hamilton Co., TN, about 1850. She was the daughter of Anna Martin. On December 8, 1859, Robert Mahan bought 160 acres on Hog Jowl Road, McClemore's Cove, Walker Co., GA from John Taylor. The log house there was probably built by Cherokees before their removal. The house has a two-story addition at present. Rebecca is buried in the small cemetery in the pasture about 200 yards from the house. There are several graves without markers, probably the little ones that died during and just after the Civil War.
Children of Robert and Rebecca were:
Susan was on the 1870 census but was not on the 1880 census, Exer appeared on the 1870 and 1880 censuses (probably by mistake), because she was not listed with Robert's children on their Homestead application in 1866. Alexander and Robert Jr. must have died before the 1870 census, since they aren't listed on it. Ad's Cherokee claim stated that Exer died in 1863 and Robert, Jr. in 1865. She didn't mention Alexander and Susan, but their births were listed in the Family Bible.

The Mahan family narrative would not be complete without mentioning the distinquished name of ROGERS.
Discovering the Rogers family was one of those great revelations every genealogists dream about.
It all started when I wondered about my great grandfather's name, Amanuel Rogers Mahan. No one had such a name in the Mahan family.
Several homes away from the Mahan's, in the 1850 and 1860 census of Walker Co., GA, was Amanuel Hennegar Rogers. I had hit the jackpot! This man was the half-brother of my great great grandmother, Patience H. Rogers Moore.
Amanuel and his father, and, indeed, the entire family were "God-fearing" Christian people who were well respected in every community they had lived in. Several of the men, including my great great great grandfather, Dauswell Rogers, (Patience and Amanuel's Father) were Methodist ministers.
A distant cousin wrote about A. H. Rogers: "I remember Uncle Amanuel as one of the most consecrated Christian men I ever knew.
This was the family of my great grandmother, Charity Patience Moore Mahan.
The Moore's, Rogers', Martin's, Mahan's and Evitt's all lived, worked, and raised children together in McLemore's Cove and Cedar Grove, Walker Co., GA. Several of these familities came to Texas together about 1877.
