U.S.Flag Services for William O. "Bill" Liston, 88, of Ft. Worth and formerly Lorenzo, were hed at 2:00 PM, Friday, February 27, 2004 at the Lorenzo First United Methodist Church with Rev. Bruce Parks and Rev. Kerry Hurst officiating. Burial was held in Lorenzo Cemetery on the Liston plot next to his wife Sylvia, under direction of Adams Funeral Home of Lorenzo.

He died in the early morning hours on Tuesday, February 24, 2004 with Vicki and Rick by his side. He was born on September 4, 1915 in Canadian, Texas.

He married Sylvia Smith on December 24, 1940 in Sudan, Texas. They were married until her untimely death on January 7, 1971. In 1937 Bill began what became a life long career with Higginbotham Bartlett Lumber Company.

In 1946 Bill and Sylvia moved to Lorenzo where he managed Higginbotham until his retirement in 1994. In 1997, Bill moved to the Ft. Worth area living with the Vaughns for a time and then in an assisted living facility. He moved back to the Vaughns in 2000 when his health began to decline.

Bill was an integral part of the community of Lorenzo for 51 years. He served as a Boy Scout leader for almost two decades and impacted the lives of many young men in Lorenzo.

Joe Hurst, a former scout, recently sent a letter of gratitude and admiration to him, which included these words: "Bill, I often think of you and of all those cold, snowy days that you spent with us selling Christmas trees and the way that you opened your heart to all the kids in Boy Scouts" Joe then added that he learned his sense of business ethics from his dad Red Hurst and from Bill and that he sincerely, cared about everyone he did business with at the lumber yard.

Additionally, Bill was a World War II Air Force veteran, a long standing member of First United Methodist Church and one of the original investors of the Lorenzo Textile Mill.

Survivors include his children: Vance and his wife Vicky of Dallas, Sharon Doss and her husband Noble of Austin, Vicki Vaughn and her husband Rick of Ft. Worth, a sister Lora Wiseman of Jasper, and was blessed to be "Papa Bill" to six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. His children will continue to celebrate the life of a gentle, quiet and quite exceptional father.

Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Joe Jennings, Walter Brown, Dee and Carl Reynolds, John D. sales, Mike Green, Wilburne and Ed Gray, Dub Dunagan, Robert Swetnam and Joe Brown.
