Services for Ray E. "Railroad" Knowlton, 93, of Idalou, formerly of Lorenzo were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 7, 2000, at Lorenzo First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dennis William officiating.

Burial was in Lorenzo Cemetery under the direction of Adams Funeral Home of Lorenzo.

He died Monday, June 5, 2000, at his Idalou home.

He was born Mar. 22, 1907, in Garden City, KS.

He married Doris Clayton on Feb. 13, 1930 in Plainview. She died Feb. 12, 1997.

He was a member of the Lorenzo First Baptist Church. He was the Secretary-Treasurer of the Lorenzo Country Club for 25 years. He started to work at the age of 16 for Santa Fe Railroad in Topeka, KS. He served as a Santa Fe Depot agent in Plainview, Bledsoe, Meadow and Lorenzo, retiring in 1976 as depot agent in Lorenzo. He moved to Lorenzo in 1964 from Bledsoe.

Survivors include a daughter, Carole Kelley of Idalou; three grandchildren, Dianna Hill and Joe Dunlap of Lubbock, Renee Grimes and Jay Stanley of Lakewood Village and Richard Grimes; five great-grandchildren, Jason Herrera of Houston, Cassie Herrera of Idalou, Ryan Hill of Lubbock, and Justin and Jessica Grimes, both of Ft. Worth.
