J.M. Kirksey, a Lorenzo resident since 1908 and a longtime Crosby County businessman, succumbed at 12:40 a.m. Friday following a lengthy illness. Kirksey, 70, died in West Texas Hospital in Lubbock.

Memorial services were conducted 3 p.m. Saturday in Lorenzo First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Sid Parsley, pastor, and the Rev. Billy Lacy, pastor of First Baptist Church in Lorenzo, officiated.

Interment was made in Lorenzo Cemetery, following Masonic graveside services. Nephews served as pallbearers.

Born August 2, 1907 in Rogers, Tex., Kirksey moved to Lorenzo in 1908. He was an insurance agent for many years.

He and Lorraine Harris were married May 9, 1929 in Lubbock.

The well-known county resident was a member First United Methodist Church in Lorenzo, Masonic Lodge and the Lion's Club, which he served for many years as secretary-treasurer.

Survivors include his wife, Lorraine; one son, Jack Harris Kirksey of Lorenzo; a brother, Milton Kirksey of Wolfforth; two sisters, Ms. Annie Anderson and Mrs. Rebecca McKinley, both of Lubbock; two grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
