Services for Sarah Jane Cherry Kidwell, 89, of Lorenzo were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 25, 1999, at Lorenzo Cemetery with the Rev. Dennis Williams, pastor of the Lorenzo First Baptist Church, officiating, and Tom Brian of Crosbyton assisting.Burial was in the Lorenzo Cemetery under direction of Adams Funeral Home of Lorenzo.
She died Sunday, May 3, 1999, at Crosbyton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born Jan. 28, 1910, in Tolar, TX. She married Thomas Levi Kidwell Oct. 10, 1941, in Washington, DC. He died Mar. 3, 1978.
Mrs. Kidwell moved with her family to the Estacado ad Lorenzo area in 1924. She graduated from Lorenzo High School in 1928 and later attended Texas Tech and Draughn's Business Schools in Lubbock. She then worked for the AAA farm program offices in Crosby, Lubbock, Bexar and Star Counties.
During World War II, she worked for the Navy Department in Washington, DC, and continued in government service until her retirement. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star until her death, and a member of the Lorenzo First Baptist Church. She moved to Lorenzo in 1978 from San Antonio.
Other than her late husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, John Melvin and Annie Cherry; two sisters, Inez Brian and Johnnie Eldred; and one brother, W.O. Cherry.
Survivors include one step daughter, Joan Kidwell Hines of Citrus Heights, CA; one sister, Jessie B. McDougal of Lampasas; two brothers, Mell and Herman Cherry, both of Lorenzo; two grandchildren; two great grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials to the Lorenzo Cemetery Associaton, Box 667, Lorenzo, TX 79343.
