Services for Max Joiner, 52, of Lorenzo were held at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, May 8, 1997 in the Lorenzo Baptist Church with the Rev. Dennis Williams, pastor, and the Rev. Fred Meeks of Plainview officiating.

Burial followed in Lorenzo Cemetery under direction of Adams Funeral Home of Lorenzo.

Joiner died at 10:41 a.m. Tuesday, May 6, 1997, in Lubbock´s Methodist Hospital following an illness.

He was born Sept. 14, 1944, in Ralls. He married Patricia Phillips on Aug. 20, 1965, in Ralls. He grew up in Lorenzo and graduated from Lorenzo High School and Texas Tech University with a degree in agriculture education.

He was a member and deacon for the last 16 years of Lorenzo First Baptist Church. He served on several church committees. He was the executive vice president of Lorenzo State Bank, and he served on the board of directors for the bank and the board of Lorenzo Bancshares. He served on the board of the Lorenzo Co-Op Gin and the Lorenzo Grain Co-op. He was a charter member and board member of the Lorenzo Chamber of Commerce, and he served on the Lorenzo Independent School District Board for 15 years. He was a 25-year member of the Lorenzo Lions Club, and he had served as president. He served on the board of the Lorenzo Stock Show Fund and served on the Lorenzo City Council. He was named Citizen of the Month in January 1996 by the Lorenzo Chamber of Commerce. He was a farmer.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Joe Robert of Lubbock; two daughters, Sami Hinson of Arlington and Kami Stewart of Lubbock; his mother, Nell Joiner of Lorenzo; a brother, Gerre Joiner of Stephenville; a sister, Carol Durham of Burleson; and two grandchildren.
