Services for Betty Jo Poulson Guess, 66, of Lubbock were held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 20, 1994, in Oakwood Baptist Church with the Revs. Cleve Haley, pastor, and Michael Passmore, pastor of First Christian Church, officiating.

Graveside services were at 2:30 p.m. in Lorenzo Cemetery under direction of Carter-Adams Funeral Home of Ralls.

Mrs. Guess died Wednesday, May 18, 1994, in St. Mary Hospital in Lubbock.

She was born on Oct. 4, 1927, in Hereford. She was a graduate of Idalou High School and attended Texas Tech University. She married George Wayne Poulson on Feb. 1, 1947, in Lubbock. He died on March 10, 1977. She married Charles W. Guess on April 24, 1982, in Lubbock.

She was an adult Girl Scout, serving on the Caprock Girl Scout Council. She was a member of the Lubbock Women´s Club, Texas Federation of Women´s Clubs, Caprock District Board of Directors of the Texas Federation of Women´s Clubs, International Friends of Texas Tech, St. Mary Hospital and Oakwood Baptist Church. She was a charter member of the Lorenzo Women´s Study Club, of which she served as president. She moved to Lubbock from Lorenzo in 1979.

Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Sheila Butterfield and Roxanne Garry, both of Lubbock; and four grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to Caprock Girl Scout Council or to a favorite charity.
