Additional Information

When Martha Ann Simpson was born on May 20, 1859, in Freestone County, Texas, her father, Asbury A. Simpson, was 32 and her mother, Caroline H. Harrington, was 22. She married Absalom Rsamus DeVore in 1876 at the age of 17. They had 10 children in 21 years. She died on April 28, 1949, in Lorenzo, Texas, at the age of 89. Absalom and his wife Martha Ann were visiting their daughter, Eliza Caroline and her husband, Robert L. Kent and their grand children in Crawford, Texas. It was a birthday visit, for it was Eliza Carolines 29th birthday. A happy occasion, but December 12, 1910 Eliza Caroline's father died. Unknown cause but he died and was buried in Crawford, Texas.

In April of 1910 Absolom and Martha were living in Fisher County, Texas. It is not known if Martha went back to Fisher County after Absalom's death or if she went on to her son's home in Limestone, County. The census of 1920, February 2, shows Martha here with her son Asburry and family. Her youngest son John Phillip and his new wife were living next door. Then in the census of 1930 she is living with her daughter Martha Byers and family in Lubbock.

Eliza and Robert moved up to Oklahoma and sometime in the late 1920's Robert left his wife and two youngest boys in Oklahoma. In February of 1938 Robert was found dead in his home in Moody, McLennan County, Texas. Eliza stayed in Oklahoma for the Social Security office shows that she applied for a Social Security card before 1951, she was working as a cook. In 1969 her card shows up that she was living in Lubbock County, Texas where she died in Feberary 1969.
