


Services for Thelma Cate, 58, of Shallowater were held at 2 p.m. Monday, September 25, 1989, in Carter-Adams Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Morrow, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Ralls, officiating.
Burial was in Lorenzo Cemetery under direction of Carter-Adams Funeral Home of Ralls.
She died at 4:29 a.m. Sunday, September 24, 1989, in St. Mary´s Hospital in Lubbock after a brief illness.
She was born in Lorenzo and moved to Shallowater in 1967 from Lubbock. She married E.M. Cate Jr. on April 23, 1948, in Lorenzo. She was a member of the Lorenzo First Baptist Church. She worked at Texas Tech as a University housing supervisor until retiring in 1986.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, David of Lubbock and John of Shallowater; a daughter, Diane Lara of Shallowater; a brother, James Mankins of Amarillo; a half sister, Billie Duncan of Las Vegas, N.M.; and five grandchildren.

Services for E.M. Cate, Jr. (PaPaw), 76, of Shallowater will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, 2005, at the Lorenzo First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dennis Williams officiating. Burial will follow at the Lorenzo Cemetery under direction of Adams Funeral Home of Lorenzo.
Mr. Cate passed away Wednesday, Aug. 31, at Lubbock Health Care Center.
He was born Sept. 13, 1928 in McKinney. On April 23, 1948, he married Thelma Nadine Mankins in Lorenzo. She preceded him in death Sept. 24, 1989. He was a member of the Lorenzo First Baptist Church. He worked as a truck driver for 30 years then worked for Lubbock Iron and Metal for 15 years. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the VFW. He lived in the Lubbock area most of his life.
Survivors include two sons and their wives, David and Brenda Cate of Amarillo, and John and Wanda Cate of Shallowater; a daughter, Diane Cate of San Antonio; a brother, Don E. Cate of Granbury; a sister, Salley Davis of Dallas, Ore.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
