Frank Butterfield Services for Dr. Frank Butterfield, Optometrist, 63, of Lubbock were at 8 p.m. Saturday, Mar. 10, 2001, at St. Luke´s United Methodist Church in Lubbock with Rev. Kerry Hurst officiating and the Rev. Tom Mills and Rev. Bruce Parks assisting.

Burial was in Lorenzo Cemetery at 4 p.m. Saturday under direction of Adams Funeral Home in Lorenzo.

He died on Wed. March 7, 2001, at his Lubbock residence.

He was born on Dec. 14, 1937, in Marland, OK. He married Sheila Poulson on April 28, 1973, in Lorenzo. Dr. Butterfield was a member of St. Luke´s United Methodist Church in Lubbock, where he was a member of the Crusader Sunday School Class, on the Visitation Committee, was chairman of the Health and Welfare Committee and served as an usher.

He was a 1956 graduate of Olney High School and was a graduate of the University of Texas in Austin and received his BS from the University of Houston and his O.D. from the University of Houston College of Optometry in 1962. He began his practice in Odessa and moved to Lubbock Nov. 22, 1963. He bought the optometric practice of Dr. P.K. Palmer now called Butterfield Vision located at 4413 82nd St. where he does eye health exams, eyeglass frames and contact lenses, and also was co-manager for laser vision correction and refractive surgery.

In 1999, he earned his therapeutic license for treatment and management of ocular disease. He was an officer and part owner of Laser Eye Center of Lubbock. He was a member of the Texas Optometric Association and South Plains Optometric Society where he served as President numerous times as well as all other officers numerous times.

He was a distinguished member of the American Optometric Association for 35 years and had been a vision provider for various Lions Clubs, Job Corps and school children recipients in Lubbock and Post.

He was a member of the Monterey Ambucs, where he served on the Scholarship Committee and was Assistant Chairman for the South Plains Fair for 2 years. He was a member of the Lubbock Jaycees and "Outstanding Jaycee". He served as district commissioner of the Boy Scouts USA for 10 years and received the district Award of Merit. He was a charter member and the 1977 president of Lubbock Executive Association, Inc. where he also received the "Best in Business" Award in 2000. He administered stateside business affairs for a missionary to Vienna and Romania.

He was a member of the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce Health and Welfare Committee and was a member of the Lubbock Theatre Center and served as its President 1973-74. He was PTA President of Iles Elementary School and served many years coaching basketball and soccer and many more years cheering from the bleachers. He also played 2 or 3 years with "Bombers", a men´s adult soccer team. He was a member of the Mayor´s Blue Ribbon Committee established following the 1970 Lubbock tornado and served on the Lubbock City Council Citizens Advisory Committee that was formed to consider all the needs of the City of Lubbock following the tornado.

Survivors include his wife Sheila Butterfield of Lubbock; two sons, Frank Wayne Butterfield of Washington, D.C., and Kurt Butterfield of Austin; one daughter, Amanda Waltrip of Lawton, OK; one brother, Claude Butterfield of Cordova, TX; two sisters, Wilma Underwood of Woodland, CA., and Dorothy Williams of Turner, OK; and two grandsons, Cooper and Nathan Waltrip.
