Howard SmithHoward Franklin Smith of Idalou went to be with the Lord on Monday, Aug. 29, 2011, at the age of 75. He was born in Crosbyton, Texas, to Johnny Cleveland and Letha Dean (Marley) Smith. Howard attended Marlow, Okla., and Brownfield High Schools. He later married Melva Watkins. Howard was a service station operator, farmer and equipment mechanic for John Deere. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Idalou.

His memory will be cherished by his wife, Melva; three sons, Richard Smith of Estacado, Michael Howard Smith of Lubbock and Shannon Coffee of Odessa; one brother, Jimmy Cleveland Smith of Cedar Park Texas; two sisters, Hazel Ammons and Patty Posey, both of Lubbock; one grandchild, April Coffee; and two great-grandchildren, Ayla and Starla.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Ricky Smith and Dennis Coffee; and two sisters, Nell Smith and Lydia Crisp. The family will receive visitors today, Aug. 31, 2011, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Combest Family Funeral Homes in Idalou. Celebration of Life services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, 2011, at Idalou First Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Estacado Cemetery, in Estacado, Texas.
