No graveyard was started at Floydada until the summer of 1891. A ten-acre tract of land was laid out for that purpose in the northeast corner of the school section lying on the north side of town. The first person's remains interred there were those of Jehu McMannis, the aged father of S.A. McMannis. The body of a Mr. Morgan, who died near Floydada in the spring of 1891, was carried to Estacado for interment. This event bestirred the people of Floydada to prepare an appropriate burying place for the dead.
