Austin (Bud) Fox was born Oct. 23, 1841 in Montogomery County, TX. His father was John Fox, born in NC about 1820. John was in Indiana for a few years, and then migrated to TX in October 1837. He received a land grant in Montogomery County of 640 acres of land.
I have Austin Fox's Confederate War record, which states that he was in Co. K, 5th TX Cav., 2nd Regt., Sibley's Bde. He was a private and a corporal during his service from 1861 to 1865. He was home on a 60 day furlough, in the spring of 1865, and he did not get back, as the other boys disbanded and came home.
Austin received a Civil War Pension #23593 in Weatherford, Parker County, TX. This was approved Sept. 1, 1913. He states in these papers that he has lived in Weatherford since he was 12 years old.
Austin had two children by his first wife: James W. Fox born 1866, listed in the 1910 Pottawatomi County, OK, Census and Martha Elizabeth Fox, born Oct. 16, 1867. The 1920 Parker County TX Census lists she and her husband, Hiram Pearson. His wife died shortly after Martha was born, her name is unknown. He married Sarah Watson, daughter of Nathan Watson, about 1870. They had three children. Dora "Dollie" Melvina Fox was born about 1872, and is listed with her husband W.H. Putnam, in 1920 Dickens County, TX Census. Mary Catherine Fox was born about 1873 and is listed in the 1920 Dickens County TX Census, her husband was Sam H. Kelsy.
John Nathan "Nat" Fox was born Feb. 10, 1879 and is listed in the 1910 Crosby County Census with his family.
Austin died May 1, 1928 in Vernon, Wilbarger County TX and is buried beside his wife, Sarah, in the Estacado, Crosby Coumty TX Cemetery. A memorial service for the dedication of a grave marker, furnished by the U.S. was done the Sept. 20, 1997 for Austin Fox. This was done by the Permian Basin Chapter of the Confederacy #2589 of Odessa, Ector County, Tx. This was attended by 40 relatives and their friends.
