Mary Higginbotham WorkServices for Mary Work, 86, of Lubbock and formerly of Crosbyton, will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, October 25, 2005 in the Crosbyton First United Methodist Church with Rev. Wendell Horn, Rev. Johnnie Williams, and Rev. Allen Brooks officiating. Burial will follow in the Crosbyton Cemetery under direction of Adams Funeral Home of Crosbyton.

Mary went to be with her Lord early Sunday morning while at Lubbock's Covenant Medical Center. She was born March 15, 1919 in Briscoe County, Texas to Claude and Martha Ruth (Alexander) Higginbotham. She attended Texas Women's University in Denton and worked for Wagner Estates in Wichita Falls. On January 1, 1954 she married Robert Jennings Work in Chillicothe, Texas. He preceded her in death December 15, 1998. Mary loved the Lord, was an avid reader of the Bible and an active member of the Crosbyton First United Church. She led her children to the Lord at a young age and loved reading to her grandchildren. She was a member of the Crosbyton Garden Club, Harmony Club and was a Girl Scout Leader. She loved sewing, the outdoors, flowers, watching birds and was an organic gardener before it was popular.

On her 75th birthday she turned cartwheels and rode a bicycle. Later in life, her favorite pastimes were pulling weeds and attending her grandkids' events. Although her memories were gone, her sweet spirit and gracious attitude remained.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and by a brother, Raymond Higginbotham.

Surviving her is a daughter and her husband, Martha and Terry Kirk of Idalou, a son and his wife, Wiley and Karla Work of Lamar, Colorado, a brother and his wife, Bill and Sib Higginbotham of Pecos and a sister, Frances Doll of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Also surviving are her five precious grandchildren, and many wonderful nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Serving as pall bearers will be John Higginbotham, John Alex Mason, Tony Davis, Marty Davis, Robby Karr and Sterling Mize.

The family suggests memorials to the Crosbyton First United Methodist Church or a favorite charity.
