Obituary

Funeral for R.C. Wood, 67, will be held at 2:30 p.m. in the First Baptist Church. Rev. Carl Grissom, Andrews, will officiate, assisted by Rev. Otis Testerman, Crosbyton.

Wood died at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday morning. He had been seriously ill only a short time and entered Crosbyton Clinic Hospital February 1.

Robert Clifton Wood was born January 3, 1895, in Dallas county. He married Katie Lillian Robertson June 25, 1911, and they moved to Lubbock county in 1914 where he worked for Albert Taylor.

In 1917 Mr. and Mrs. Wood moved to Becton, in 1928 to Idalou and in 1935 the Wood family came to a ranch at Silver Falls east of Crosbyton. Wood bought a farm implement dealership here in 1943 and operated it for several years.

He also bought the ranch where their home is located on the edge of Blanco Canyon in 1943. On this property they first raised quarter horses but later replaced these with cattle.

Wood served as county commissioner in 1957-58. An active member of the First Baptist Church, he has served as president of the Downtown Bible Class.

He was one of the organizers of Crosbyton Rodeo Association and served several years as its president. He was an honorary member of Cal Farley´s Boys Ranch.

Survivors include his wife; a son, J.W. Wood, Crosbyton; a daughter, Mrs. D. D. Forgus; a sister, Mrs. W.L. Nichol, Garland; two brothers, Joe, Garland, and B.C., Wylie; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Burial will be in Crosbyton cemetery. King Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Kate Wood Mrs. Kate Wood, a Crosbyton resident for 42 years, will be buried in Crosbyton Cemetery following memorial services at 10:30 a.m. today (Thursday) in the First Baptist Church. The Rev. Carl Grissom, pastor of First Baptist Church in Andrews and a former Crosbyton pastor, is to officiate and will be assisted by the Rev. Bobby Rine, local Baptist pastor.

Adams Funeral Home is directing arrangements.

Mrs. Wood, who resided at 409 South Jefferson, was claimed by death at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday in Crosbyton Clinic Hospital, where she had been a patient approximately five weeks. She was 83.

Born Feb. 16, 1894 in Dubach, La., she was married June 25, 1911 to R.C. Wood in Rockwall, TX. The family moved to Crosbyton in 1935 from Idalou.

Mr. Wood died Feb. 7, 1962.

Mrs. Wood had remained active until her recent illness. She was a member of First Baptist Church, the Homemakers Sunday School Class, and Crosbyton Garden Club.
