Gaylon Wheeless
Services for Gaylon Wheeless, 54, of Crosbyton, were held at Crosbyton First United Methodist Church Monday the 26th at 2:00 with the Rev. Lee Crouch officiating and the Rev. Dave Treat assisting.

He died Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002, after a long and courageous struggle.

He was born Oct. 10, 1947, in Erick, Okla., and moved to Crosbyton, TX with his family while still very young. He was a 1966 graduate of Crosbyton High School, and in 1967 he married Pamela Marley, also a long-time Crosbyton resident. He graduated from Texas Tech University in 1970 with a degree in Business Administration, before returning to Crosbyton. At the time of his death he was co-owner of the Crosbyton Pump Co.

During his many years of residence in Crosbyton, he served at various times on the local Chamber of Commerce, the Crosby County Appraisal board, the Pioneer Memorial Museum board, and for ten years on the Crosbyton School board, a portion as president, and was for several years a coach of Little Dribblers. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and had served as chairman of the administrative board.

Gaylon was the beloved husband of Pam and father of Brett Andrew of Portland, OR., Beau Christopher and wife Brandi Hope of Houston, TX., and Jason Benjamin of Salem, OR. He is also survived by two older brothers: Edmond of Brownwood and Richard of Houston.

He will be remembered as a gardener, a carpenter, a maker of exotic bird houses, a man who could build anything and fix anything, a collector of ducks, a lover of music, a connoisseur of fine food, a tireless worker, and a man of gentle disposition and ironclad belief in right and wrong. He took from life, and gave back to it, only good. He will be greatly missed. He was an unconditionally devoted husband, father and best friend.

The family suggests memorials to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or the Joe Arrington Cancer Center, 4101 22nd Place, Lubbock, TX.
