54 DESCENDANTS EAT DINNER WITH UNCLE CHARLEY THORNHILL

Last Sunday, exactly 54 persons sat down tothe dinner table with Uncle Charlie Thornhill to celebrate his 81st birthday.

The group met in the home of Mr. and Mrs. D. D. Thornhill on the East Plains in the broadway community. In the crowd were his wife, five of his six children, 13 grandchildren and sevn (sic) great grandchildren besides in-laws and close friends.

Uncle Charlie relay enjoyed the day. Many friends called during the afternoon.

The five children and families present include: Mr. and Mrs. D. D. Thornhill and son, Charles; Mr. and Mrs. O.G. Norris, Bobbie Joe and Sandry Kay; Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Thornhill, Donald Wayne and Tommy; all of Crosbyton and vicinity; Mrs. Homer Miller, Weldon and Miradell, of Croton, Texas and Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Thornhill, Billy, Dortha and Bobby, all of Seymour. Others present for the delicious birthday dinner included: Mr. and Mrs. Fred Dunn of Portales, N.M., Mr. and Mrs. Roy Eaverson, Gene and Jackie Faye, of Morton; Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Thornhill, Wanda Lou, Billy Joyce, Charles and Lynn Wayne, Mr. and Mrs. Lincoln Blankenship and Donald Roy, all of Seymour; Mr. and Mrs. R. M. Spence and Georgia, Mrs. A. L. Winegar, Harvey Mac and Robert Lee, Mr. and Mrs. Kelton Winegar, S. F. Starrett, Mrs. E. K. Richardson, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. McCracken, Albert Wilson, all local friends, and Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Miller of Dickens.

Among the friends who called in the afternoon to wish Uncle Charlie a happy birthday were: Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Walker, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Leatherwood and Kenneth and Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Barnett, Jimmy, Betty and Ann.

Mr. Thornhill has six sons and daughters, 18 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren in all, some of whom were unable to be present last Sunday.

Obituary

Funeral services for Mrs. C.N. Thornhill, 71, long-time Crosby county resident who moved to the East Plains in 1917, were held Tuesday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. at the home of her son, D.D. Thornhill, on the East Plains.

Mrs. Thornhill died about 7:30 o'clock Monday morning at the home of her son. Her death came after a lengthy illness.

Rev. A.S. Stokes, of Afton, retired Baptist pastor, officiated at the services, assisted by Rev. Carl Grissom, pastor of the First Baptist church of Crosbyton. She was buried in the Crosbyton cemetery under direction of King Funeral Home.

Mrs. Thornhill was born Feb. 7, 1877, in Arkansas, and moved to Texas at the age of seven.

Survivors include the husband; three daughters, Mrs. Homer Miller of Crosbyton, and Mrs. E.A. Clark of Lubbock; three sons, W.A. of Seymour, D.D. and T.E., both of Crosbyton; 18 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers, who are grandsons of the deceased, were: Charles Thornhill, Crosbyton; Jack Thornhill, Fort Worth; Weldon Miller and Billy Joe Miller, Croton; Bill Thornton, Seymour, and Lincoln Blankenship, Seymour.
