Obituary

Funeral services for Mrs. Florence Ellie Strange, 60, were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church. Rev. Wayland Boyd, pastor, officiated, assisted by Rev. Ira Harrison, Abilene.

Burial was in Crosbyton Cemetery under direction of King Funeral Home.

Mrs. Strange, who had lived most of her life in Crosby County died at 2:10 p.m. Monday in Crosbyton Clinic Hospital. She suffered a stroke Sunday at her home from which she never regained consciousness.

Born in Union County, Tenn., Mrs. Strange moved to Crosby County in 1915. She had lived in or near Crosbyton since that time.

Survivors include her husband, George Strange; five sisters, Mrs. Flake Paschall, Clovis; Mrs. w. W. Heathington, Ralls; Mrs. L. W. Chance, Crosbyton; Mrs. Asalee Reed, Lubbock; Mrs. O. R. Williams, Lubock; and five brothers, R. J. Coffey, Crosbyton; H. A. Coffey, Gila, N. Mex.; J. L. Melrose, N. Mex.; S. H., Levelland, and E. E. Lubbock.

Pallbearers were R. C. Wood, Ferrin Smith, Lonnie Ellis, Roy Warren, F.M. Dunn and Charlie Taylor.

The Crosbyton Review, Thursday, April 4th, 1957

A Crosby County resident since 1906, George Houston Strange of Crosbyton was claimed by death at 6:15 a.m. Sunday in Crosbyton Clinic Hospital following a lengthy illness. Mr. Strange was 86.

Memorial services for the well known Crosbytonite were at 2 p.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church of Crosbyton with the Rev. Bobby Rine, pastor, officiating.

Burial was made in Crosbyton Cemetery, under direction of Adams Funeral Home.

Mr. Strange had been a resident of Crosbyton Care Center for several years before entering the hospital slightly over a week prior to his death.

He was born Nov. 13, 1894 in Tom Green County and was married to Ellis Coffey on Oct. 9, 1918 in Ralls. Mrs. Strange preceded her husband in death on April 1, 1957.

Their only child, Edith Jewel Strange, was claimed by death July 19, 1919.

A retired farmer, Mr. Strange was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Crosbyton.

Survivors include one brother, Lawrence Strange of San Antonio and a brother-in-law, Edgar Coffey of Lubbock.
