Biography

When Oscar Theodore Stockton was born on June 18, 1877, his father, Harris Chapman Stockton, was 23 and his mother, Margaret Catherine Crowson, was 21. Minnie Myrtle Johnson was born on February 7, 1884, in Arkansas, her father, Elvin Mathis Johnson , was 23 and her mother, Mary Frances Casteel, was 22. Oscar and Myrtle were married on November 22, 1900, in Paris, Texas; Oscar was 23 and Minnie was 16 years of age. They had seven children in 15 years- Hoyt 1901, Troy 1904, Royce 1905, James 1910(died at 2 years), twins Zelma and Thelma 1912 and Charles 1916. Oscar died on December 4, 1936, in Crosbyton, Texas, at the age of 59, and was buried there. Myrtle died on June 5, 1940, in Brownfield, Texas, at the age of 56.

Obituary

Funeral Services Are Held At Home: Wife and 5 Children Survive

O.T. Stockton, 59, died Friday, December 4, at his home in Crosbyton. Funeral services were held at the home, conducted by Rev. Throckmorton, of Lubbock, and Rev. W.E. Peterson, pastor of the First Methodist Church, Crosbyton. He was buried in the Crosbyton Cemetery with A.A. Hatchell in charge, assisted by Weldon Dendy.

O.T. Stockton was married Nov. 23, 1900, to Miss Myrtle Johnson. To this union there were eight children born. Surviving are his wife, three sons, Royce and Charlie, both of Lubbock, and Troy of Crosbyton; two daughters, Mrs. Fay Shores, and Mrs. John McDuff, both of Crosbyton; and eight grandchildren.

There are also four sisters, Mrs. A.N. Lowrie, of Slaton; Mrs. C.J. Higginbotham, of Crosbyton; Mrs. W.R. Gentry of Lubbock; and Mr. Ray Flipps of Abilene; three brothers, W.S. and Charlie of Buffalo Gap, and T.W. Stockton, of Crosbyton.

Mrs. Myrtle Stockton, 54, died at 3:30 o´clock Wednesday at the home of her son, Charles Stockton in Brownfield. She had been ill several weeks. She was a resident of Crosbyton for 24 years.

Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at 2 o´clock in the Methodist Church, with Rev. E.H. Crandall officiating. She was buried in Crosbyton Cemetery with Curry Funeral Home in charge

Survivors are two other sons, Royce of Lubbock and Troy of Bonham; two daughters, Mrs. John McDuff and Mrs. Zola Edwards of Crosbyton; a brother John Johnson of Hereford and two sisters, Mrs. Grady Wilson of Hereford and Mrs. Arthur Music of Weslaco.
