Services for Ancil Steele, 83, of Crosbyton were held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, December 18, 1997, at the Crosbyton First Baptist Church with the pastor, Rev. Lester Griffin, officiating.

Burial followed in the Crosbyton Cemetery under the direction of Adams Funeral Home of Crosbyton.

Mr. Steele died at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 16, 1997, at the Crosbyton Care Center following an illness.

He was born June 24, 1914, in Johnson County, AR, and married Vera Dee Knott on September 5, 1932, in Portales, NM. He was a member of the Crosbyton First Baptist Church, Downtown Bible class and Senior Citizens where he was named Senior Citizen of the Year in 1990. He served on the board of Texas Farmers Home Administration and for several years he delivered Meals on Wheels. He was a farmer and moved to the Crosbyton area in 1926.

Survivors include his wife, Vera Steele of Crosbyton; a son, Connie Frank Steele of Houston, a daughter, Annette Marie Cootes of Austin; a grandchild; and 4 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Gary Hamersley, George Fudge, Conner Fudge, Ray Sanchez, Bill Odom, and Jackie Hamersley.

Honorary Pallbearers were members of the Downtown Bible Class.

The family suggests memorials to the Dialysis Center of Lubbock, 4110 22nd Place, Lubbock, TX. 79410.
