James Starrett

U.S.Flag   Funeral services for James P. Starrett, 65, were held at 4 p.m. Friday in Pansy Baptist Church in Broadway. Mr. Melvin Ratheal, pastor of Trinity Baptist Church at Lubbock, officiating.

Starrett died at 11:25 a.m. Thursday at the home of his sister, Mrs. M.R. Givens, after several weeks illness.

Assisting in the services was the Rev. L.E. White pastor of Pansy Baptist Church. Burial was in Crosbyton Cemetery under direction of King Funeral Home.

Starrett, born in Cleburne, moved to Crosby County in 1909. In 1943 he moved to Amarillo, returning to Crosby County only two months ago due to illness.

Survivors include a daughter; a son, Samuel Charles, Marquette, Mich.; a daughter, Mrs. Opal McWatters, Houston; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren; six sisters, Mrs. Givens, Mrs. Homer Smith, Mrs. D.D. Thornhill, Mrs. R.C. Ratheal, all of Crosbyton; Mrs. H.F. Woods, Houston; and Mrs. R.M. Spence, Floydada; four brothers, Conda, Kalgary; Carl, Silver City, NM; S.P., Crosbyton and Stacy H., Lubbock.
