Biography

When Henry Laurence Starrett was born on July 11, 1896, in Cleburne, Texas, his father, Henry Russell Starrett, was 29 and his mother, Dodie Winfield Guinn, was 23. He married Louisa Tisdale age 17 on March 3, 1918 when he was 21 years of age. They had four children, 3 girls and one boy, their firstborn who died less when than a year old. during their marriage. He died on February 12, 1969, in Crosby County, Texas, at the age of 72, and was buried in Crosbyton, Texas. Louisa changed the spelling of Laurence to Lawrence when they married. Louisa Tisdale was born on November 7, 1900, in Bell County, Texas to Minnie Lee Ratheal, age 26, and Charlie Walter Tisdale, age 28. She died on January 24, 1989, in Lubbock, Texas, at the age of 88.

Obituary

CROSBYTON (Special) — Lawrence Starrett, 72, was found dead at 6:45 a.m. Wednesday at his home here.

Investigating officers said a 12 gauge shotgun was found beside the body. Carl Ingram, justice of the peace, returned a verdict of death caused by a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the head.

Starrett moved to the Broadway community in 1912 from Cleburne. He was a pioneer farmer converting ranch land into farms. He retired from farming several years ago. Starrett was a charter member of the Pansy community church.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday in the First Baptist Church here with the Rev. Ernest Stewart, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Crosbyton Cemetery directed by King´s Funeral Home.

Survivors include his wife, Lou; three daughters, Mrs. M.C. Woodlock of 5304 Gary, Lubbock, Mrs. M.E. Gibson of 5301 44th St., Lubbock, and Mrs. Eldon McEachern of Edmondson; a sister, Mrs. Joe Lambert of Hobbs; and eight grandchildren.

CROSBYTON (Special) - Services for Mrs. Lou Starrett, 88, of Lubbock will be at 3:30 p.m. today in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Lester Griffin, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in Crosbyton Cemetery under direction of Franklin-Bartley Funeral Home.

Mrs. Starrett died at 10:10 p.m. Tuesday in Lubbock´s Methodist Hospital after a brief illness.

She was born in Texas an moved from Crosbyton to Lubbock in 1969. She married Henry Lawrence Starrett in March 1917 in White River. He died Feb. 12, 1969. She was a homemaker and a member of Elgin Avenue Baptist Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Lois McEachern of Ruidoso, NM, and Evelyn Phifer Woodlock and Barbara J. Gibson, both of Lubbock; a brother, Earnest Tisdale of Houston; two sisters, Myrtle Duncan of Beaumont and Verna Napper of Houston; eight grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.
