Graveside services for Joe R. "Cotton" Stanley, 76, of Crosbyton were held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, February 6, 2001, at the Crosbyton Cemetery with the Rev. Bud Kidwell, pastor of the Crosbyton First United Methodist Church, officiating.Burial was under the direction of Adams Funeral Home of Crosbyton.
He died Monday, Feb. 5, 2001 at his home.
He was born Sept. 24, 1924, in Clairemont.
He married Mury Ann Stanley on May 15, 1972, in Crosbyton.
He attended Spur High School. He was owner and operator of 82 Antiques in Crosbyton. He was on the Spur polo team from 1959 to 1984 and during that time, the team won 21 world championships. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving with the 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles. He had 6 combat jumps and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He also played football for the 101st airborne screaming eagles and was its boxing champion. He received a Purple Heart and was a disabled veteran. He attended the Methodist church. He was a farmer and rancher and had lived in Crosby and Dickens counties most of his life.
He is preceded in death by two brothers, Bud in 1988 and Kenneth in 1941.
Survivors include his wife, Mury Ann Stanley of Crobyton; three sons, Joe Stanley of Post, Kenneth Stanley, of Post, and Dickie Stanley of Fort Worth; two daughters, Patsy Wilkes of Post and Paris Ware of Ralls; one brother, Glen Stanley of Post; two sisters, Neva Calvert of Muleshoe and Velda Patrick of Fort Worth; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Graveside services for Mury Ann Stanley, 68, of Crosbyton were held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, May 11, 2005 in the Crosbyton Cemetery with Rev. Karan Young officiating. Burial was under direction of Adams Funeral Home of Crosbyton.Mury Ann passed away at Tuesday, May 10, 2005 at the Ralls Nursing Home.
She was born December 11, 1936 in Crosby County to Conda and Mattie Lee (Harden) Starrett. On May 15, 1972 she married Joe R. "Cotton" Stanley in Crosbyton. He preceded her in death February 5, 2001. She was a graduate of Crosbyton High School and had a life long passion for riding horses and was a former barrel racer. She loved anything western. She was a member of the Crosbyton First United Methodist Church. She had been a bookkeeper at the Cotton Compress in both Crobyton and Ralls for 25 years. She owned and operated 82 Antiques for about 30 years.
Survivors include a special friend, Jack Reynolds of Spur, a daughter and her husband Paris and Regan Ware of Ralls, a sister, Tookie Maze of Crosbyton, her four grandchildren, Ciera Cotton, Savana Wheatley, Mesa Cayenne and Canyon Cactus Ware, all of Ralls, an aunt, Lena Givens of Crosbyton and a nephew and niece Conda and Judy Maze of Houston and numerous cousins.
Serving as casket bearers will be Ray Sparks, Mark Phillips, John Gaylor, Frank K. Moore, Darl Walker, Harold Williams, Bud Anderson and Curtis Palmer.
