  Services for Dixie Arona Fowler Stainthorpe, 73, of Lubbock were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 4, 1997, at the Church of Christ in Crosbyton with William Eudy, minister of the Cactus Drive Church of Christ in Levelland and Leonard Harper, minister of the Crosbyton Church of Christ, officiating.

Burial followed in the Crosbyton Cemetery under direction of Adams Funeral Home of Crosbyton.

Mrs. Stainthorpe died at 3:45 a.m. in Lubbock´s Methodist Hospital following an illness. She suffered a stroke May 19.

She was born to Loyd A. and Ethoice Reynolds Fowler on March 10, 1924, in the Big Four Community in Crosby County, TX. She attended Big Four School and graduated from Crosbyton High School. She served with the Women´s Army Corps during World War II, stationed at Randolph Field in San Antonio. Following an honorable discharge from the service she settled in San Antonio where she met and married Murrell Glen Stainthorpe, Sr. In 1973 she moved to Lubbock. She was a member of the Church of Christ.

She is preceded in death by a brother, Norris Hale Fowler and by a sister, Bonnie Fae Fowler.

Survivors include a son, Murrell Glen Stainthorpe, Jr., and his wife, Rosanne of Red Oak, TX; four brothers, Gwin Dale Fowler of San Antonio, Leslie Fowler of Orting, WA, Allen Fowler of Crosbyton, and Harley Fowler of Blue Mount, TX; two sisters, Jean Stahl of Denver, CO, and Margie Williamson of Pecos; and one grandson, Sterling Stainthrope of Red Oak.

Pallbearers were Sterling Stainthorpe, Mark Williamson, Matthew Williamson, Jacob Williamson, Jack Parker, Larry Parker and Don Parker.

The family suggests memorials be made to White River Youth Camp, Crosbyton, or Lubbock Children´s Home, Idalou Highway, Lubbock.
