Obituary

Following a lengthy illness, Lake Mae Spurgin of Crosbyton was claimed by death at 12:10 a.m. Tuesday in Crosbyton Clinic Hospital. She was 87.

Mrs. Spurgin had been a resident of Crosbyton Care Center for some time.

Memorial services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Leo Willard, pastor of McAdoo Baptist Church, officiating.

Interment was made in Crosbyton Cemetery beside the grave of her late husband, Raymond Esta Spurgin, who preceded his wife in death July 1, 1975. Adams Funeral Home of Crosbyton directed arrangements.

Grandsons served as pallbearers.

The former Lakey Mae Osburn was born March 4, 1897 in Celeste, Tex. She and R.E. Spurgin were married Nov. 19, 1916, in McKinney.

The couple moved to Crosby County in October 1941 from Paducah. They farmed at Mt. Blanco before moving into Crosbyton.

Mrs. Spurgin was a member of First Baptist Church and Homemakers Sunday School Class. A charter member of the Crosbyton Senior Citizens, Mrs. Spurgin was honored as "Senior Citizen of the Year."

She was a former member of Mt. Blanco Home Demonstration Club.

Mrs. Spurgin is survived by one son, Don Spurgin of Hereford; four daughters, Jean McGowan of Perryton, Jerry Culpepper of Denton, Jimmie Payne and Marjorie Dean, both of Lubbock; one brother, Slocum T. Osburn of Lubbock; two sisters, Vesey Dotson of McKinney and Nell Reeves of Dallas; 13 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.
