Obituary

  CROSBYTON (Special) - Services for Wildon M. "Brownie" Smith, 65, of Crosbyton will be at 4 p.m. today in Crosbyton First Baptist Church with the Revs. Les Griffin, pastor, Jerry Gentry, pastor of Woodrow First Baptist Church, and Ernest Stewart, pastor of South Plains First Baptist Church, officiating.

Burial will be in Crosbyton Cemetery under direction of Adams Funeral Home.

Smith died Sunday, March 31, 1996, in Lubbock´s St. Mary Hospital.

He was born June 18, 1930, in Crosby County. He married Margie Jones on June 5, 1957, in Crosby County. He was a member and deacon of Crosbyton First Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday School for 14 years and a senior Citizens Class. He was a Boy Scout leader and a master wood craftsman. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War.

He was a farmer, and he worked at Blanco Gin and for Jody James. He worked in maintenance for the Crosbyton Rural Development Corp., and he was a Crosbyton school bus driver.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Mark of Lockney and Jay of Idalou; a daughter, Kristi Wishmeyer of Abilene; two brothers, Royce and Wendell, both of Crosbyton; two sisters, Mary Beth Carr of Lancaster and Clarice Shaw of Mathis; and seven grandchildren.
