CROSBYTON (Special) — Services for J.C. Smith, 63, of Crosbyton are pending with Adams Funeral Home of Crosbyton.

Smith died at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Crosbyton Clinic Hospital after a lengthy illness.

The Crosbyton native married Carmen Robertson on Dec. 27, 1940, in Crosbyton, where he had lived most of his life. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He was Crosby County tax collector for 12 years. He also worked for the coop gin and the Crosbyton Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service office. He was a former member of the Crosby County Volunteer Fire Department and had coached Little League baseball.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Joe Clay of Lorenzo; two daughters, Mary Fay Karr of Crosbyton and Nancy Ogle of Nacona; a brother, Edgar Smith, address unknown; two sisters, Mrs. J.T. (Ella) Herrod of Taft, CA, and Mrs. J.B. (Odessa) Stotts of Ralls; and seven grandchildren.

Carmen SmithServices for Carmen Smith, 87, of Crosbyton will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 3, 2010 at the Crosbyton First Baptist Church with Rev. Ken Bevel and Sue Jan Glenn officiating. Burial will follow in the Crosbyton Cemetery under direction of Adams Funeral Home of Crosbyton.

Carmen passed away on Saturday, May 1, 2010 at Covenant Specialty Hospital in Lubbock. She was born January 19, 1923 in Crosbyton to the late H. C. and Mellie Melvina (Hall) Robertson. On Dec. 27, 1940 she married J. C. Smith, Jr. in Crosbyton. He preceded her in death on August 2, 1983.

She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Woodrow, Dennis and Fulton Robertson; and one sister, Louise Robertson.

Carmen was a lifelong resident of Crosbyton and a member of the Crosbyton First Baptist Church. Carmen was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. Her family and friends experienced her love for poetry and cooking.

Survivors include a son, Joe and wife Glenda Smith of Artesia, N.M.; two daughters, Nancy and husband Larry Ogle of Nocona and Mary and husband Larry Morris of Lubbock; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Sunday, May 2, 2010, from 3 to 4 p.m. at Adams Funeral Home in Crosbyton.
