Obituary
Dec. 19, 1979 was a long awaited day for Rev. Green (Dad) Sims Jr. That was his 100th Birthday.Three months and one day later Crosbyton´s only centenarian was dead. He succumbed at 2 p.m. Thursday in Crosbyton Clinic Hospital, where he had been a patient for several weeks.
Rev. Sims, who joined a circus when he was 15, had been a gospel preacher, musician, cowboy, farmer, and coal miner. "You name it and I've done it." he told The Review during a December interview.
Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Galilee Baptist Church. The Rev. Garfield P. Carmichael, pastor of the St. Paul´s Church of God in Christ, officiated.
Burial was made in Crosbyton Cemetery under direction of Adams Funeral Home.
He had helped organize St. Paul Church of God in Christ in Crosbyton and several other area churches. Although he served in the ministry many years, he had not received his ordination certificate until about a month before his death.
Mr. Sims said his mother was 80 at the time of her death and his father reached 105.
His life was a combination of happy moments and tragedies. Rev. Sims outlived four wives, his four children, and, he believed, his only grandchild.
An avid musician, Mr. Sims claimed two violins and a banjo as among his most valuable possessions.
He came to McAdoo in 1942 and later moved to Crosbyton. His home is at 319 North Ave. A.
