Obituary

Services for Gearldean Maze Scott, 77, of Tulia were held at 1 p.m. Friday, March 17, 1995, in Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Auten, pastor, officiating.

Graveside services were held at 4 p.m. in Crosbyton Cemetery under direction of Franklin-Bartley Funeral Home of Lubbock.

She died Tuesday, March 14, 1995, in Methodist Hospital in Lubbock.

She was born June 10, 1917, in Bell County. She married Virgil Scott Oct. 13, 1935 in Crosbyton.

She was a member of the Senior Citizens of Tulia and Calvary Baptist Church. She was a retired homemaker and an Avon saleswoman. A son, George, died March 16, 1991.

Survivors include her husband; three sons, V.V. of Ropesville and Leroy and Ceaman both of Lubbock; two daughters, Margaret J. Slover of Paducah and Ethel Edwards of Tulia; a sister, Sybol Brandon of Roaring Springs; 15 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.

Grandsons were pallbearers.

  • Virgil Scott Services for Virgil Scott, 86, of Tulia were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 16, 2002, at Franklin Bartley Funeral Chapel in Lubbock with Rev. Ricky Lawrence officiating.

    Burial was at 4 p.m. Sunday June 16, 2002, at Crosbyton Cemetery under the direction of Franklin Bartley Funeral Home. He died Friday, June 14, 2002, at the West Texas Lutheran Home.

    He was born Aug. 12, 1915, in Jones County. He married Gearldean Elizabeth Maze, Oct. 13, 1935, in Crosbyton, and she died Mar. 14, 1995.

    He originally was from Kalgary Community in Crosby County and later lived many years in McAdoo. He moved to Tulia in 1968 from Lazbuddie.

    He retired from farming in 1968 after farming in McAdoo and Lazbuddie. He later retired from the City of Tulia. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Tulia.

    Survivors include three sons, V.V. Scott of Olton, Leroy Scott and Ceaman Scott, both of Lubbock; a daughter, Ethel Edwards of Tulia; 16 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren; two brothers, Wade Scott of Lubbock and W.T. Scott of Durango, CO; a sister, Elene Steele of Dallas.

    He was preceded in death by a son, George Alton, Mar. 16, 1991, and a daughter, Margaret Jo Slover, Apr. 3, 1995.
