W.M. (Bill) Romane, 60, a business and civic leader in Crosbyton since 1917, died suddenly yesterday morning, Thursday, at the office of Dr. J.L. Adams, from a heart attack. Mr. Romane had complained Wednesday night of a pain beneath his heart, but felt better yesterday morning and went to his farm on the East Plains. Becoming ill, he returned to the city, and died a short time later, at 11:15 a.m., after he had arrived at the doctor´s office.

Funeral services will be conducted today, Friday, at 3:30 p.m., at the residence north of the city, it was announced. Rev. L.B. Smallwood, pastor of the First Methodist church, will conduct the services. He will be buried in the Crosbyton cemetery with Curry Funeral Home in charge.

Mr. Romane came to Crosbyton from Childress in 1917, when the Plains Mercantile Company was established here. He served as the president of that organization in the city. He has served several times on the board of directors of the Crosbyton Chamber of Commerce, being president of that body at least twice. He was a leader in the Rotary Club here several years ago, and had been a member of the Lions Club. At one time he was a director of the West Texas Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. Romane was also president of the Crosbyton Farm Loan Association, a position he had held for many years. He was serving on the board of trustees of the Crosbyton Public Schools at the time of his death.

William Maxwell Romane was born at Cleburne, Texas, on September 30, 1881. Before coming to Crosbyton he lived at Childress, where he married Mrs. Mary Burrows in 1914. The family moved to Crosbyton in 1917, where he had resided since.

He is survived by his wife; a son, W.M. Romane, Jr.; two daughters, Mrs. A.N. Hardesty, Tyler, and Sue Hedrick, Childress; a brother, Tom Trent Romane, of Waco; a sister, Mary Wilson, of Waco; and three grandchildren.
