Graveside services for Cathey Brakebill Roberts, 42, were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 1, 1986 in the Crosbyton Cemetery with Jim Fullingham and the Rev. Larry Ramsey, pastor of the First United Methodist Church officiating.Burial was under the direction of Adams Funeral Home.
Mrs. Roberts died late Friday night or early Saturday morning due to strangulation, according to the Lubbock County, Sheriff Department, and her ex-husband, William Lee Duke, 30, is charged with her death. Officials said the strangulation apparently took place at the couple´s apartment after a fight. The body of the woman was dumped in the canyon near Buffalo Springs Lake two miles north of Slaton and discovered at 2 p.m. Sunday by passersby.
She was born in Ralls and had lived in the Crosbyton area most of her life. She was employed by the Lubbock Independent School District in the transportation department.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Lorenzo, the Lorenzo Alcohol Anonymous and the White River Retreat.
Survivors include her parents, Arthur and Hazel Brakebill, Crosbyton; two sons, Stephen Roberts, Lubbock; Blake Roberts, Lubbock; one brother, George Brakebill, Crosbyton; one nephew, Mike Brakebill, Midland; one granddaughter, Alexis Roberts, Lubbock; one grandson, Rocky Roberts.
