Obituary
Crosbyton community was stunned following Mike Richardson´s critical injuries suffered when he fell from a pickup in which he was riding with friends enroute to a baseball game last Thursday night. The youth suffered severe head injuries in the fall.
Local residents anxiously awaited new developments after the youth was rushed from Crosbyton Clinic Hospital to Methodist Hospital in Lubbock, where he was placed in the intensive care unit.
The community fell into a deeper shock Sunday afternoon when word was received that the popular 15 year old had lost his gallant battle for survival. The time of his death was placed at 1:15 p.m. Sunday.
Mike would have been a Crosbyton High School sophomore this fall. He was active in numerous school endeavors including FFA, football and basketball. He was also a 4-H Club member having exhibited animals in several livestock shows.
Memorial services were at 4 p.m. Tuesday in the Church of Christ. Glen Gray, the minister, and the Rev. Dave Treat, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiated.
Interment was made in Crosbyton Cemetery, under direction of Adams Funeral Home.
Michael Lee Richardson was born Sept. 19, 1966 in Crosbyton. He had resided in Lubbock and Hereford as well as Crosbyton.
The lad was claimed by death one year and 10 days after the death of his father, Lonnie Richardson, on June 3, 1981.
Survivors include his mother, Joanna Richardson of Crosbyton; three half brothers, Ronnie Richardson, Paul Richardson and Craig Richardson, all of Flint, Mich.; his grandfather, Jess Richardson of Hamilton; and a number of uncles, aunts and cousins.
