Obituary

William Horace Ratheal, a well known East Plains resident most of his life, was claimed by death at 4:34 p.m. Friday in a Santa Fe, NM., hospital while reportedly undergoing surgery.

Mr. Ratheal and a cousin, Aubrey Gressett, were on a fishing trip to Eagle Nest, NM. The local man was ill when he awoke and was taken to a clinic in a nearby town, then to a Taos, NM, hospital and finally to St. Vincent Hospital in Santa Fe.

Horace Ratheal would have had his 70th birthday in slightly over two weeks.

Memorial services ere conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in First Baptist Church of Crosbyton. Officiating were the Rev. Bobby Rine, pastor; the Rev. Buster Skaggs, a Baptist minister form Paris, TX; and the Rev. Preston Beeks, pastor of the Pansy Baptist Church.

Burial followed in Crosbyton Cemetery under direction of Adams Funeral Home.

Born Aug. 10, 1910 in Oklahoma, Mr. Ratheal moved to the East Plains when he was only a few months old. His parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. W.P. (Walter) Ratheal, were early settlers on the East Plains.

He had resided within a three mile span on the East Plains since arriving in this area.

Horace Ratheal and the former Gertie Ann Moore were married Sept. 2, 1929 in Dickens.

He farmed until his retirement about four years ago. Mr. Ratheal was a member of the Pansy Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Gertie; two sons, Arnold Ratheal of Floydada and Lee Roy Ratheal of Crosbyton; two brothers, Clarence Ratheal of McAdoo and Alvie Ratheal of Crosbyton; one sister, Mrs. Ola Moore of Crosbyton; four grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

A daughter Margene Ratheal, died in infancy.

Services for Gertie Ratheal, 81, of Crosbyton were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 14, 1992, in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Lester B. Griffin, pastor, officiating.

Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15, 1992, at Adams Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Crosbyton Cemetery following.

She died at 3:40 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, 1992, in Crosbyton Care Center after a lengthy illness.

She was born in Arkansas and moved to Crosby County in 1926. She married William Horace Ratheal on Sept. 2, 1929, in Dickens. He died July 25, 1980. She was a member of First Baptist Church.
