Services for Amon W. Proctor,67, of Lubbock will be 10 a.m. Thursday, May 12, 2005, at the Sanctuary of Bacon Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Mark Proctor officiating, Dr. Jerry Joplin assisting, and Dewayne Proctor delivering the eulogy. Amon will be buried beside his parents at the City of Crosbyton Cemetery immediately following the service. Arrangements are under the direction of Adams Funeral Home of Crosbyton.
Amon was born in Lubbock April 7, 1938 to Richard and Erma Proctor. He graduated from Crosbyton High School in 1956 and moved to Lubbock to attend Texas Tech. He married Jerri Lynn Ratheal Aug. 30, 1957 at First Baptist Church of Crosbyton. Upon graduation from Tech in 1960 with a degree in Business Administration, he worked for Citizens National Bank, E.F. Hutton, and First National Bank of Lubbock prior to his much-cherished tenure at American State Bank of Lubbock.
He died Sunday, May 8, 2005, at Covenant Medical Center.
He was a model of love and generosity to his wife of 47 years and his sons, Dewayne and wife Brooke, and Mark and wife Sherri, all of Lubbock. Amon adored his grandchildren, Reagan, Meagan, Grayson, Dustin (deceased), Madison, and Zachary. He was passionately interested in studying the Bible, flying, music, investing and collecting (nearly anything). Always close to his heart and lap was his dog, Buster.
He delighted in living life to extremes, happy all the same to be flying an open-cockpit airplane through the canyons of West Texas, reading quietly in his study, or teaching others the power of investing while at the same time giving his own time and resources away at every turn. He was an avid hunter and pilot and was an active member of the Aircraft Owners, Pilots Association and the Experimental Aircraft Association. Amon was a longtime member of Bacon Heights Baptist Church in Lubbock, and proudly served for over 30 years on the board of the City of Lubbock's Firemen's Pension Fund.
He is preceded in death by a grandson, Dustin Taylor Proctor, who died in 1994.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Reagan Proctor and Grayson Proctor; cousin and college roommate, Bruce Allen; and cherished friends, Bob Beck, Art Bullock, Glen Lowe, Eric Barbee and Owen Keith Crump.
The family looks forward to receiving family and friends at Rix Funeral directors, 1901 Broadway, Wednesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. and recommends memorials be made to the Benevolence Ministries of Fellowship Church Lubbock or Bacon Heights Baptist Church so that Amon's passion of investing in the lives of others can be continued.
