Vertie Powell was honored with a party on Sunday, July 16, 2006 celebrating her ninety-second birthday at Crosbyton Nursing and Rehab Center.

She married Marvin Powell in Lindsey, Oklahoma on December 19, 1930. They were blessed witha son, Willie D. "Bill" Powell on January 18, 1935 in Mayfield, Oklahoma. He married Rita Ratheal on May 14, 1956.

She has one granddaughter, Mitchell Wilson and she and her husband, Gary live in Wizzard Wells, Texas with their children Brandon and Jessia.

Vertie lost her husband on December 19, 1990 and her son Bill on August 28, 1991.

She has one sister living, Betty Boggs of Hereford, Texas. Three brothers, L.D. Richardson of Stinnett, Texas, Rowdy Richardson of Lubbock, Texas, and Donnie Richardson of Crosbyton, Texas and several nieces and nephews.

Vertie has been a member of the Primitive Baptist Church since 1950. She was very active in her church until she was unable due to her failing health. In years past, she worked at the Club Cafe, 82 Cafe, and worked at Crosbyton Clinic Hospital as a nurses aide for many years.

Her nephew Jacky and wife Rubye Kay Dewbre and niece Brenda and husband Rick Sudduth played music, which everyone enjoyed so much.

Many thanks to everyone that help to make her birthday such a special one.

She had many relatives and a host of friends present to help make her party so special.

Marvin Powell

CROSBYTON (Special) — Services for Marvin Eugene Powell, 79, of Crosbyton will be at 2 p.m. today in Primitive Baptist Church with Elder George Johnson, pastor, and Jim York, minister of the Crosbyton Church of Christ, officiating.

Burial will be in Crosbyton Cemetery under direction of Adams Funeral Home.

Powell died Thursday night in Crosbyton Hospital after a brief illness.

He was born in Wallville, Okla., and moved from Maysville, Okla., to Crosbyton in 1941. He married Vertie Richardson on Dec. 19, 1930, in Clovis, NM. He had farmed in the Mount Blanco Community. He had worked for the City of Crosbyton, retiring in 1989.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Bill of Crosbyton; two brothers, Douglas of Wills Point and Leon of Maysville; three sisters, Connie Adams of Maysville, Juanita Stieger of Moore, Okla., and L´Wanda Grimes of Oklahoma City; a grandchild; and a great grandchild.

Services for Vertie Powell, 94, of Crosbyton was at 11:00 AM, Monday, October 13, 2008 at the Crosbyton Primitive Baptist Church with Elder George Johnson officiating. Burial followed in the Crosbyton Cemetery under direction of Adams Funeral Home of Crosbyton.

Vertie passed away Thursday, October 9, 2008 at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock. She was born on July 17, 1914 in Childress to the late William Jesse and Essie May (Childs) Richardson. On December 19, 1930 she married Marvin Eugene Powell in Clovis, New Mexico. He preceded her in death on December 6, 1990.

Vertie moved to Crosbyton in 1941 and was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church in Crosbyton.

She is preceded in death by a son; Bill Powell on August 2, 1991, two brothers, Lonnie Richardson, Donnie Richardson, a half brother, Manzey Richardson, four sisters; Bertha Boggs, Tenia Cooper, Ollie Hash and Vesta Dewbre.

Survivors include; her daughter-in �law; Rita Powell of Crosbyton, two brothers; J. D. "Rowdy" Richardson and wife Beverly of Lubbock, L. D. Richardson of Stinett two half brothers, Paul Richardson and Sandy Richardson both of Amarillo, a sister; Betty Boggs of Hereford, a half sister, Delta Faye, a granddaughter and her husband; Michelle and Gary Wilson of Wizard Wells, two grandchildren, Brandon Wilson and Jessie Wilson.
