Services for Quill Pierce, 68, of Lubbock will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Parkway Drive Baptist Church with the Rev. Richard Rush, pastor, and the Rev. Wayne R. Williams, pastor emeritus, officiating.

Burial will be in Crosbyton Cemetery under direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.

Pierce died Friday, Jan. 6, 1995, at Huguley Hospital in Fort Worth.

He was born June 13, 1926, in Blum. He had lived several years in Crosbyton. He married the former Carllee Garrett Aug. 17, 1946, in Mount Blanco. They lived in Floydada before moving to Lubbock in 1950.

Pierce worked 19 years with the Santa Fe Railroad. He was the warehouse manager for the TGY Distribution Center and the West Texas Warehouse.

He was a member of Parkway Drive Baptist Church, serving at one time as deacon. He also was a former member of the Lubbock Lions Club, the West Texas Shippers Association and the Lubbock Traffic Club, where he was a former president.

He served as the coordinator for the Region One of Camper on Mission, a division of the Baptist Texas General Convention.

He was an Army veteran of World War II. He participated in the liberation of the Philippines and served with the U.S. occupational forces in Japan. He was a personal body guard for Gen. Douglas MacArthur and was awarded the Bronze Star.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Jim of El Paso; a daughter, Kathy Todd of Alvarado; four brothers, J.C. of New Deal, Donald and Dick, both of Lubbock, and David of Burleson; two sisters, Lula Mae Johnson of Lubbock and Katie Davis of Crosbyton; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and two great step grandchildren.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
