Obituary

Longtime Crosbyton civic leader G.C. "Bill" Nickson was claimed b death at 1:05 p.m. Saturday in Methodist Hospital Hospital, following a prolonged illness. Mr. Nickson was 70.

Honored in 1970 as Crosbyton´s "Citizen Through the Years," Mr. Nickson was a former member of the school board and had served as one of the original directors of the Crosby County Pioneer Memorial board of directors, along with numerous other community activities.

Memorial services were at 2 p.m. Monday in the Church of Christ. Officiating were Loyd Hall, minister, Leonard Dennis of Crosbyton, retired minister of the Church of Christ in McAdoo; and Allen Brown, a Church of Christ minister from El Campo.

Interment was made in Crosbyton Cemetery, under direction of Adams Funeral Home.

Gerald Carter Nickson was born May 2, 1910 in Poolville. After finishing high school in Tioga, he went to Dallas to work for a drug company and entered Danforth School of Pharmacy in Fort Worth in 1932.

He moved to Crosbyton in 1932 to work for his father at Nickson Drug Store. Later, Mr. Nickson owned and operated Nickson Pharmacy until his retirement in 1975. The firm is now owned by his son-in-law Larry Yowell, although the name Nickson Pharmacy was unchanged.

His son, Don Carter Nickson, owns Don´s Pharmacy in Lorenzo.

Bill Nickson and the former Rubye Collier were married June 18, 1933 in Santa Fe, NM. The couple made Crosbyton their home throughout their marriage.

Mr. Nickson was an active member and former deacon in the Church of Christ.

He was a former member of the Crosbyton Volunteer Fire Department, held membership in Crosbyton Lions Club, Crosbyton Chamber of Commerce, and Texas Pharmaceutical Association.

In addition to his wife, Rubye, Mr. Nickson is survived by one son, Don Carter Nickson of Lorenzo; one daughter, Mrs. Larry (Carol) Yowell of Crosbyton; one brother, Carl Nickson of Crosbyton; one sister, Mrs. Lawrence (Jessie) Simmons of Lubbock; six grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

Services for Rubye Collier Nickson, 92, of Crosbyton will be at 2 p.m., Monday, Feb. 11, 2008 at the Crosbyton Church of Christ with Terry Ellison officiating. Burial will be in Crosbyton Cemetery under direction of Adams Funeral Home of Crosbyton.

Rubye passed away Friday, Feb. 8, 2008 at the Ralls Nursing Home.

She was born on May 22, 1915 to the late Isham and Irene (Ragle) Collier. On June 18, 1933, she married Bill Nickson in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He preceded her in death on Feb. 14, 1981.

Ruby was a member of the Crosbyton Church of Christ, the Hospital Auxiliary, the Needle Point Club and the Crosbyton Sr. Citizens where she had served as secretary. She was a homemaker, had lived in Crosbyton all her life and played Bridge whenever she got the chance.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Don and Row Nickson of Crosbyton; a daughter and her husband, Carol and Larry Yowell of Crosbyton; a brother, Wade Collier of Crosbyton; a sister, Pauline Davies of Tucson, Arizona; eight grandchildren, Alan Nickson (Cindy) of Amarillo, Mark Nickson (Terri) of Canyon, Donna Sims (Doug) of Amarillo, Stephanie McIntosh (Jonathan) of Paris Island, SC, Wes Nickson of Austin, Virginia Neely (Jerry) of Rhome, Becky Shock (Jim) of Crosbyton, Lance Yowell (Kim) of Keller; 13 great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.

Serving as pallbearers will be Alan Nickson, Mark Nickson, Wes Nickson, Jim Shock, Coltin Shock, Doug Sims, Lance Yowell and Jonathan McIntosh.

The family will receive friends Sunday, Feb. 10, 2008 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorials to White River Youth Camp, P. O. Box 455 Crosbyton, Texas 79322.
